6 Tips to Stay Focused in your Home Office

Welcome home, office pros! Working from home can be a daunting task at first. You’re adjusting to your home office set up, dealing with changing routines, and trying to find the same level of productivity as in a corporate environment. But take heart- it’s not impossible! Here are 6 tips to help you stay focused and maximize your home office productivity. From setting up an ergonomic workspace to having a dedicated home office, these tips will help you stay on track and get your job done. So take a deep breath, buckle up, and let’s get started!

1. Designate a home office space:

Having a designated home office area helps you stay focused and organized. Choose a room or area that is separate from home activities and has minimal distractions. Make sure it is comfortable and stocked with all the supplies you need to get your work done. Also inform family members that is now work and set the boundaries early to ensure you stay productive and focused.

2. Invest in ergonomics:

Good posture and proper ergonomic equipment will help you be more comfortable as you work, and therefore more productive. Get an adjustable chair with good lumbar support and use a monitor arm for your laptop. Invest in a standing desk if you can, to give yourself the option of standing up for periods at a time. If you sit behind a desk for hours at a time, you’re not doomed to a career of neck and back pain or sore wrists and fingers. Proper office ergonomics — including correct chair height, adequate equipment spacing and good desk posture — can help you and your joints stay comfortable at work.

3. Take short breaks:

Working from home doesn’t mean you should be chained to your desk all day. Short breaks throughout the day help improve productivity and focus, so take brief walks and give yourself regular opportunities to take a break and recharge. Deactivating and reactivating your goals allows you to stay focused, from a practical standpoint, the research suggests that, when faced with long tasks (such as studying before a final exam or doing your taxes), it is best to impose brief breaks on yourself. Brief mental breaks will actually help you stay focused on your task!

4. Prioritize:

When you are home and working, it is easy to get distracted by tasks that aren’t work-related. Set priorities for the day and stick to them. Make sure that your daily goals are realistic and achievable. Break down larger tasks into smaller ones, so they are easier to manage. As well, try to limit the number of tasks you do at home each day, as too much multitasking can lead to stress and fatigue.

5. Stay connected:

When working from home, it is important to stay in touch with your colleagues and boss. Use video conferencing or instant messaging tools such as Zoom, Skype or Slack to stay connected and informed. This will help you stay on top of tasks and projects, as well as provide an opportunity to discuss ideas and collaborate with team members.

6. Set a schedule:

Having a home office means that you need to be self-disciplined in order to stay productive. Setting up a daily routine and sticking to it will help you stay focused and organized. Establish a start and end time for your work day, as well as regular breaks in between tasks. It will also help to create an environment that is conducive to productivity – no loud music or TV!

These home office tips can help you maximize your home office productivity and focus. Don’t forget to take time for yourself too, so you can stay energized and motivated during your home office days. With the right set up and a healthy routine, you’ll be well on your way to home office success!

Happy home-working!
